An owner can safely check three things. Confirm the keyway is not obstructed with visible debris. Verify the key is an original Abloy blank, not a hardware-store copy, the cuts on copies are often shallow and damage discs. And check that the cylinder face is not loose in the housing, a sign the retaining clip has failed.

Do not attempt to disassemble an Abloy cylinder. The disc tumblers are under spring pressure and the sidebar components in Protec2 systems are not visible until the cylinder is fully stripped. A disc launched across the room is not recoverable, and reassembly without factory gauges produces a lock that looks correct but opens with a screwdriver.
