Sargent’s automotive line is narrower than their commercial hardware, but the keys they do produce follow the same precision standards as their Grade 1 door hardware. We most commonly cut replacement keys for Sargent vehicle lock systems integrated into commercial fleets, municipal vehicles, and a subset of older import models that used Sargent-sourced ignition and door cylinders through the 1990s and early 2000s.

To identify your Sargent-compatible key, check the bow (the head you grip) for a stamped “SAR” or “SARGENT” marking, or a four-digit code beginning with 3 or 7. The key blank profile matters: Sargent automotive blanks use a .085″ root depth on single-sided keys and a .060″ on their narrow-track sidewinder variants, tighter than the .095″ standard most big-box cutters default to. A miscut at those tolerances means the key will seat but not lift pins to shear line.

• The key works in the door but not the ignition, or vice versa. Two different cylinders with two different wear patterns. The ignition cylinder sees more torque and debris; the door cylinder collects road grit. A key cut to average tolerances may work in one but not the other as cylinders age unevenly.
